Forget paper or plastic, try BYOB, as in “Bring Your Own Bags”. Plastic bags are an environmental nightmare because they aren’t biodegradable. Paper bags, while biodegradable and recyclable, are also a problem. The manufacturing and recycling of paper bags creates more air and water pollution and requires more energy than plastic. Paper bags also take up a lot of space in landfills. Take the question of paper or plastic off the table and bring your own when you go shopping. My husband and I just spent 10 days in San Francisco and used our two Reisenthel bags for our grocery shopping. Both bags fit neatly into my medium size purse.
