If you live in western Washington and are building or demolishing a home, this site’s for you, the RE Store. The RE Store was founded in 1993 by RE Sources for Sustainable Communities to provide an alternative to dumping usable building materials.
Each store carries quality building and home improvement materials at prices up to 50% off of new items. They also offer a wide variety of services including pickup, salvage, and whole building deconstruction. Located in Bellingham and Seattle, they have a fleet of trucks that respond throughout western Washington, They divert close to 3,000,000 pounds of waste per year. That’s stuff that would have gone to a landfill! They also offer workshops in topics such as ‘Green Building’ and ‘100 Ways to Use a Door’. They pick-up, salvage, deconstruct, and accept drop-off donations from contractors, homeowners, businesses, property managers, and demolition companies.
There are some materials, such as used carpet, ceiling fans or mini-blinds that the RE Store does not accept, either because the items have no resale value or the RE Store is overstocked with those items. Donations are tax deductible or tradable for in-store credits. If you’re looking for that something special, you can sign up for email ‘Hot Sheets’ that list featured materials weekly.
