Does the following sound like your average day? Here’s a breakdown from the Adbusters.org ”Slow Down Week” video, January 13-19, 2008.

  • Sleep – 6 hours
  • Eat – 30 minutes
  • Fight traffic (while talking on your cell phone) – 3 hours
  • Work – 9 hours (probably more)
  • Walk the dog - 2 minutes
  • Romance – 3 minutes (okay, this might be another problem altogether but that’s a different subject)
  • Watch television, surf your computer, play video games - the rest of the time (my take)

Are you tired? Do you need help to slow down? Try the Slow Down Now website, the ‘almost’ serious antidote to workaholism. Their Beginner’s Guide to Slowing Down includes:

  • Drinking tea – This isn’t hard at all. I’m just finishing a cup of green tea.
  • Taking a bath - Ewww! The thought of sitting in my own bathwater grosses me out. Besides, it takes too much water to fill the tub. I’ll have to try the other suggestions.
  • No multi-tasking – Uh oh, guilty as charged. Sometimes I cram my brain with so much crap that I forget what I’m looking for when I go from one room to the next.
  • Yawning – Funny how just reading the word yawn makes me yawn. Not once but twice.
  • Taking a nap -My husband can catnap standing up. Me, not so much, but I’m working on it.

We spend our days “in a shrill state of hyperactivity (signifying nothing)” according to Slow Down Now. I couldn’t agree more. I think it’s time for a nap.
