Washer Rebate for High Efficiency Washers February 28, 2008

We recently purchased a high efficiency Energy Star washer/dryer for our new home.  Since it was an unexpected purchase for us, I was hoping to find a rebate program similar to Washwise Rebates in our new town. No such luck. But that shouldn’t stop anyone living in the Pacific NW from getting a little help to conserve water with a high efficiency washer.

The WashWise program offers rebates of $50 to $100 for the purchase and installation of qualified energy and water-saving clothes washers. The more energy and water the washer saves, the higher the rebate.

  • The machine must be installed in a single-family home, apartment or condo building that buys water from one of the Saving Water Partnership utilities.
  • If your home is provided with electricity by Seattle City Light, the rebate amount above includes both the energy and water rebate. Seattle City Light customers who do not purchase water from a Saving Water Partnership utility are eligible for 50% of the rebate indicated for their machine.
  • If your home is provided with electricity by Puget Sound Energy or Snohomish County PUD, you may be eligible for their rebate, on top of the rebate indicated above.

Check out the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency – U.S. Department of Energy Energy Star website. Enter your zip code to find out if there are any special offers or rebates currently available on Energy Star qualified products in your area.

Many areas offer rebates on high efficiency washers. Just not the one we’re moving to – although it wouldn’t have made a difference in the washer/dryer we chose. According to the EPA, an Energy Star clothes washer can save you $550 in operating costs over its lifetime compared to a regular clothes washer. Not only that but we use less energy and conserve water. I’m all for that.
