Firefox 3 as a Blogging Tool January 4, 2009

firefox

I recently switched from Internet Explorer 7 to Mozilla Firefox 3. I also tried Google Chrome and Opera and while they are fast they are also light on the features I want. A post on Problogger, Turn FireFox 3 Into A Blogging Toolbox, helped me tune up Firefox. These are the ones I’m currently using:

Twitter - I’ve been using Twhirl but since I don’t have it open in Startup, I always have to remember to open it up. I added the TwitKit extension which shows the latest 10 Tweets in a sidebar on my browser.

Google Services – My husband and I share a Google Calendar so we can keep our schedules straight. Plus there’s Google Reader, GMail and so on. Gbutts lets me add Google services as icons on my toolbar or as a drop-down menu. Considering there are 40 different Google services available, that saves a lot of toolbar space.

Short URLs is.gd lets you shrink any long URL in your address bar. Another alternative is TinyURL Creator.

Page Rank - With SearchStatus, you can see a Google PageRank and Alexa rank for a URL, along with fast keyword density analyzer, keyword/nofollow highlighting, backward/related links, Alexa info and more. Normally I’d have to find a Page Rank checker for research.

Share - Shareaholic enables you to quickly, and very easily share, bookmark, and e-mail web pages via a wide array of your favorite social networking & bookmarking sites — such as Digg, Facebook, Gmail, MySpace, StumbleUpon, and others.

Related posts and images - Zemanta inserts a box into the right sidebar of your WordPress write page. It presents images, links, articles, tags in a simple interface related to your post. The images are creative commons.

Blog EditorScribeFire is a full-featured blog editor that integrates with your browser and lets you easily post to your blog. I downloaded this one and am trying it.

    Nice selection Daryl !

I use the is.gd shortcut tool like you but am no big fan of too many stuff on my Firefox.

so I don’t have anything for twitter or share or whatever. I still use a lot of tabs in the morning and tweet, share and so on directly from the website. (so old school… )

I use the stumble upon userbar. Very useful to waste a lot of time in the evenings…

If you are into coding html, css and stuff you should use Firebug. but I am sure you already use it. It’s very handy for my current redesign.

have a nice day in Arizona. Here, the snow from your screen is due to land here today. it’s very cold…

I also use the Stumble toolbar but find I don’t use it to full advantage.

Just downloaded Firebug to try. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sorry about the snow – I’m playing tennis at 7:30 this morning. A little cold but I don’t miss the snow at all! My daughter called from the Seattle area. Another 2 inches of the white stuff on the road last night as she was driving home from work.

The snow landed as planned. one centimeter so far (1/2 an inch ^^)

It’s okay as I don’t usually drive much.

I’ve been using Firefox for years now. I really like all the plugins. My absolute favorite is Foxmarks bookmark synchronizer, it syncs all my bookmarks between 3 computers that I regularly use. Thanks for the tip on Search Status I really like it!

I’m a huge fan of Firefox. I’m sure there are other plugins that are useful. I just have to get the time to review them all! ~ Daryl
